In the autumn of the year, there is a debate that begins to heat up and it continues until the year is over. Typically, it revolves around the topic of saying either ‘Merry Christmas’ or ‘Happy Holidays’ as a greeting.
It has become inappropriate in the eyes of certain stores to say Merry Christmas because it is not necessarily the most politically correct statement out there. There are many who continue to celebrate Christmas but there are also some who choose not to.
There are a number of stores that continue to say Merry Christmas and ignore the political correctness associated with the term, Happy Holidays. The stores are recognized by the American Family Association (AFA) for their support of Christmas.
1. Hobby Lobby – This store is well known for its stand on religion. They will continue to play Christmas music, stay closed on Sundays, and say Merry Christmas to those who enter their store.
2. Belk – Just like Hobby Lobby, you can expect the store to continue to spread some Christmas cheer.
3. Nordstrom – This high-end department store is respectful of all the holidays, including Thanksgiving and Christmas. You will not see Christmas decorations at their store until after Thanksgiving and they want to make sure that their employees have the ability to enjoy the holidays.
4. Home Depot – This store also makes use of the term ‘Christmas’ making the AFA consider them to be Christmas friendly.
5. Walmart – This is one store that receives a five-star rating from AFA. They not only celebrate Christmas, they promote it.
6. Macy’s – Known for taking the lead in the largest Christmas parade in the country, they also use the word Christmas in their storefront in New York City.
7. JCPenney’s – They have other problems in the past but they still focus on Christmas by the time of the year comes around.
8. Bass Pro Shops – These stores share a strong commitment to focusing on the Duck Dynasty family, and they promote Christmas.
9. Lowe’s – Like their counterpart, Home Depot, they ensure that their staff fully embraces the Christmas season.
10. Toys “R” Us – You might be surprised that Toys “R” Us gives Hobby Lobby a run for its money when it comes to using the word Christmas. They even have a Christmas catalog that is full of toys for children.
