Many people make the decision to become a teacher from the time they are very young. It is more than a profession for them, it is a calling.
One teacher who absolutely loved her job worked at Lucketts Elementary School in Leesburg, Virginia. She was a fifth-grade teacher but she left her job after she refused to teach critical race theory (CRT).
Morris went before the county school board during a meeting to express her opinion on the ‘highly polarized agendas’ put in place by the school board. She was critical of the equity training and changes associated with CRT, which shows how racism is embedded in social norms.
She said: “I quit being a cog in a machine that tells me to push highly-politicized agendas on our most vulnerable constituents – the children.” She felt that her Christian beliefs were in opposition to the ideologies held by the district.
She also felt that her personal life was affected by the political agenda associated with the school district. Even in her personal life, she would receive emails cautioning against dissenting opinions.
Eventually, she would grow weary of the process and the bias against certain demographics held by the district. She felt that it was better for her to resign rather than to hold on to what she had.
