Christmas dinner is something that many of us look forward to every year. It’s an opportunity to spend time with family and friends and eat some great food.
There is one grandmother in Britain, however, who has decided to make her guests pay for a seat at the table this year. Caroline Duddridge is that mother, and she has stirred up a lot of feelings online.
Ever since her husband passed away, she has been struggling to make ends meet. It was difficult to think about how much she would spend on the festivities, so she set up a system to care for it.
In that system, all of the family members would have to pitch in financially by December 1 if they wanted to come to the meal. This even included the grandchildren, and it would cover everything, including the electricity needed to cook it.
At first, Caroline tried to save money throughout the year by asking family members to cut back but it was an inefficient method. She decided to go with the direct approach and it has been in place for five years.
This may be something unusual and not many families could do it, but it is something that has worked for this family. Adults are charged 15 pounds, teens pay 10 pounds, and children make a smaller contribution. Babies have to pay, but they pay the least.
This may make you wonder what people get for the payment. The celebration is going to last from Christmas Eve through Boxing Day with quite a menu. There will be a variety of meats and traditional holiday dishes and it’s a festive experience for everyone involved.
Not everybody is on board with her decision, but it is one that the family has appreciated. You can learn more about it in an interview in the following video:
