Famous 80s Movie Star Moved To The Country And Started A Business

When somebody is a famous actor, it seems as if it takes their life over in many ways. Some people continue to chase that dream as far as they can but others enjoy the popularity and then go their separate way.

One actor was well known for their part in the Indiana Jones movie in 1981. Overnight, they became a well-known sensation, even though they were well-known prior to that.

Of course, we are talking about Karen Allen, and she was only 29 years old when she played alongside Harrison Ford in that movie. She will always be remembered for the role that she played.

Allen is now 73 years old and she is nowhere near the spotlight. She continues to go on her journey in life, however, but now she is doing so quietly in the Massachusetts countryside.

Rather than following her career in acting, she decided to pursue her love of family and be creative. She even ended up being a textile entrepreneur.

Karen made her film debut in 1976 but it wasn’t until she was in Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981 that everybody knew who she was. She played the part of Marion Ravenwood, and she was the perfect choice to work alongside Harrison Ford.

That movie went on to become one of the highest-grossing films of its time and it became one of the most popular franchises in history. Even Karen talks about how Raiders is a fan favorite almost 40 years later.

She said: “It’s extraordinary! The fact that people are still seeing the film, talking about the film, having an interest in the film — it’s amazing.”

Even after she became famous for Raiders of the Lost Ark, she decided to take on some more personal and smaller projects. Many were wondering why she turned down larger roles that came her way but she had her own reasons.

She once said: “It was just what I really wanted to do.” That was seen clearly when her son, Nicholas Browne was born. She decided to move to the countryside of Massachusetts in 1993 when he was only three years old and to live full time in peace and quiet.

When she was away on a ski trip in 1988 with her husband at the time, Kale Browne, she realized that it was the right thing to do. They found an old house in the Brookshires that was built in 1792 on 28 acres of land. She said that she was connected to the property immediately.

They didn’t move right away but that trip left an impression that stuck around. Eventually, she decided to move to the countryside and to make it a permanent move.

It was good to raise Nicholas in an area that was quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of the city. He was able to get a good education and eventually, he would develop a passion for cooking.

The bond that he shares with his mother is often expressed through food. He continues to love minimalist plates for presentation while she makes the handmade pottery that is found throughout her home.

After moving to the Brookshires, she decided to allow her creativity to blossom. It wasn’t long before she had gone through some textile design studies at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. She realized it was for her.

Suddenly, she was immersed in colors, patterns, and fabrics. She started her own business in 2005, Karen Allen Fiber Arts. She creates high-quality cashmere pieces, including sweaters and scarves.

You can find her shop in Great Barrington. She says: “Textiles are my passion — I call them my first ecstasy.”

In 1995, she converted an old barn on her property into a yoga studio. This also allowed her to connect with the community and she has taught yoga classes for herself and her students. This brought additional balance to her life.

It’s always interesting to find out what happens to someone so famous who has disappeared from the scene. We wish her much success in the future.
