It is always a sad announcement when a beloved actress passes away. They add so much to our lives and we have seen them so frequently that sometimes, we feel as if we know them personally.
Unfortunately, Friday, September 27 was the day that Dame Maggie Smith passed away. She was 89 years old at the time of her death and according to a statement from her sons, she passed away ‘peacefully in the hospital’ early in the morning.
The statement went on to say: “An intensely private person, she was with friends and family at the end. She leaves two sons and five loving grandchildren who are devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful staff at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their care and unstinting kindness during her final days.
“We thank you for all your kind messages and support and ask that you respect our privacy at this time.”
Although she has played many roles over the years, she is perhaps best known as playing Professor McGonagall in Harry Potter. Ever since the movies were released in 2001, she has become the 26 cast member to have died.
Some other notable shows that she was well known for include Downton Abbey and Sister Act.
