A New York father found out his two teenage daughters were killed in a car accident by tracking their phones when they didn’t respond. Hailey Trumble, 19, and Shelby Trumble, 17, were riding in a Chevy Cobalt in the town of Ira on August 1 when the crash happened.
Their dad, Brian Trumble, couldn’t get ahold of them and started to worry, so he used the Find My Friends app. He said: “It’s a tremendous loss. It’s never going to be the same again.”
According to the sheriff’s office, the crash took place in the early evening on Ira Hill Road near Farnam Road. The girls’ car reportedly crested a hill and went into the other lane, hitting a 2016 Jeep Cherokee.

The Jeep was driven by 59-year-old Robin Latham, who survived but was hospitalized with serious injuries. Hailey and Shelby both died from their injuries at the scene.
The cause of why their vehicle crossed the center line hasn’t been shared yet. Officials say the investigation is still ongoing.
A GoFundMe was created by Karrie Wallace to help the family with funeral and medical expenses. She wrote that she was helping on behalf of Brian and his son Riley during this “unimaginable loss and need.”
She added: “This go fund me is for funeral expenses and unforeseen medical bills as there is no life insurance to cover specific costs. Support for Brian and Riley Trumble, father and older brother to the girls, to cover costs associated with this tragedy. Allowing them to focus on healing with out added burden of financial stress.”

Donors left messages of sympathy. One person wrote about the sisters making people laugh and enjoying fishing together. Another said: “My heart aches for your family as you navigate this unimaginable loss. Though we are strangers, please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. May you find strength and comfort in the love and memories of Hailey and Shelby.”
The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department said several agencies helped at the crash site and are still working the case. They’ve said no more info will be released until the investigation is finished.
