There are times when we may do something and we aren’t necessarily happy with the results. We might not even feel good getting paid, and Anna Kendrick is someone who understands.
You likely know Anna Kendrick because of her 2012 role in the movie, Pitch Perfect. More recently, she was the star of Woman of the Hour, a Netflix movie about a string of killings committed by serial killer, Rodney Alcala.
After she finished with the Netflix movie, she decided that she would donate all of her profit to charity.
If you are unfamiliar with the 1970 serial killer portrayed in the movie, he murdered at least eight women, although it is thought that he probably killed many more women. Potentially, he may be connected to 122 additional deaths.
One part of the life of Alcala is covered in the movie. It is when he appeared on the television show, The Dating Game and attempted to woo a woman named Sheryl who was played by Kendrick.,
In speaking on a podcast, 39-year-old Kendrick opened up about making the film. She said: “This was never a money-making venture for me. Eventually, Netflix bought the movie. But it wasn’t until, like, the week before TIFF [Toronto International Film Festival] that I thought: ‘Oh, this movie’s gonna make money.'”
After the movie, her conscience was bothering her. She said: “I asked myself the question of: ‘Do you feel gross about this?’ And I did.
“So, I’m not making money off of the movie. The money is going to – or has gone to – RAINN and to the National Center for Victims of Violent Crime. That felt like the least that I could do.”
The show is doing well and many have been happy with her performance, as well as what she did by donating the money.
Kendrick also spoke about her personal experiences with being abused by her partner. She said: “Sometimes the most torturous thing isn’t just the disrespect or mistreatment, but the fact that everyone’s acting like it’s not happening. Which then convinces you that something’s not happening.
“It makes you question whether you’re making all of it up, or if you’re being paranoid or too sensitive. You sound crazy. You’re dismissed. ‘He brushed your hair off your shoulder – that’s nothing.
“And yet when you’re there, you can feel the threat that’s hanging in the room.”
