Love is a beautiful thing and they often say that it has no limits. This includes age, and sometimes the older we get, the more in love we are.
Joe and Ann were a young couple in 1964. He was on leave as a soldier and she was a nurse working at a local hospital when they met each other.
It happened by chance, when they sat next to each other what an old mansion a small park near the hospital. Joe was looking at his boots and noticed the young woman who had a quiet smile on her face as she read a book beside him.
Joe decided to start a conversation and before long, he was totally hooked. Even though he left for deployment the next day, he arranged to meet on the same bench at some time in the future.
Both of them were able to survive the war and after Joe returned, he found her waiting on the bench for him. They shared their lifetime with each other, raising a family, building a home, and being in love.
The couple retired when they were 55 and returned to that park every single day to sit on the bench. It doesn’t matter if it was raining or shining, they would share their lives together at the park.
Eventually, people in the area began to call it the ‘Joe and Ann’s Bench’ and people would stop by to see them. They were a great example of a couple in love.
As the years passed, they had their ups and downs in life. Friends and family members would pass away or they would welcome new grandchildren, each of which helped to define them as they got older.
These days, they are 100 years old and they still go down to that bench every day to sit. Joe helps her to get ready for the weather and she straightens his hat before they sit down. They often laugh about their age and on occasion, she will lean into his shoulder.
They don’t always talk continually and sometimes, they are quiet for quite a while. They have built a long life of love together, and it’s a beautiful thing to see.
People sometimes ask them about the secret of staying in love for that long and he always says: “Just find someone you want to sit with, forever.” She always smiles, knowing that it means he still loves her.
